What would your fantasy story be without the archetypal Castle? It is an inherent part of the scenery in the pseudo-medieval landscape. It is also part of our real history, with castles scattered across Europe.
Shall we explore the fantasy castles? Should we explore the real castles? What are the basic elements of a typical castle? What sort of people actually work there? For every member of the privileged class, how many servants are working behind the scenes to keep the whole thing functioning?
Fascinating stuff. In time, I shall explore some fantasy castles and some very real castles, how they are constructed, laid out, etc. and who lived and worked in them.
