The Basilisk, also known as a Cockatrice, is a fat reptilian creature about 5 feet long and 2 feet in height. They have tough hides, but they aren't very likely to attack humans as they prefer fish. However, they have strong jaws and sharp teeth, so can inflict serious pain if they bite you. That is not the main problem you should worry about if you meet one though. Their primary offense is that they have a magical ability that can turn anyone they look at to stone with just a glance. And if that doesn't get you, their poisonous breath probably will. And they bite. But, if you reflect their gaze back at them, they effectively self-destruct.
