Brownie

The Brownie is the House Spirit. They are the Faerie Folk most likely to be encountered by humans. Like Leprechauns, they are "little people", but decidedly more sociable. And definitely a lot more benevolent towards non-Faerie than any others of their ilk. They enjoy keeping things ordered and functioning and use minor magics to assist in doing this. This may involve repairing minor damage or small tasks, bless (or possibly curse) crops. The negative element comes out if they are insulted or badly treated, or if someone is just rude to or about them. Watch out for that falling roof tile, uneven floorboard, etc. The brownie may carry a teeny sword or bow. If you are kind to them and perhaps leave out a saucer of milk for them at night (you thought it was being drunk by a cat?), then they will aid the inhabitants of an area. If made unhappy, after the small 'accidents' they may then give intimate information to a household's enemies. So, if you want to get information about an enemy, convince the local brownie that the person in question has besmirched their name. Cold iron causes damage in contact with a Brownie, like burning.
